20
๐Ÿ“šAnd it came about at the end of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that Joab led out the strength of the army, and laid waste the country of the children of Ammon and came and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem. And Joab attacked Rabbah and destroyed it.
20:1 2 Sam 11:1. The writer of Chronicles was not led by the Spirit of God to record what happened while David remained in Jerusalem (2 Sam 11:2โ€”12:25). It would seem that in Godโ€™s eyes one account of that sad event was enough.โšœ
2 ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“šAnd David took the crown of their king from his head, and found it weighed a talent ๐Ÿ“– of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set on Davidโ€™s head. And Joab also brought out a very large amount of plunder from the city. 3 ๐Ÿ“šAnd he brought out the people who were in it, and made them cut with saws and labour with iron implements and with axes. David did this with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
4 ๐Ÿ“šAnd after this it came about that war began at Gezer with the Philistines. At that time Sibbechai the Hushathite killed Sippai, who was of the children of a giant; and they were subdued. 5 ๐Ÿ“šAnd again there was war with the Philistines; and Elhanan, the son of Jair, killed Lahmi, the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear shaft was like a weaverโ€™s beam.
6 ๐Ÿ“šAnd once more there was war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had twenty-four fingers and toes, six on each hand, and six on each foot; and he also was the son of a giant. 7 ๐Ÿ“šBut when he defied Israel, Jonathan, the son of Davidโ€™s brother Shimea, killed him.
8 ๐Ÿ“šThese were born to a giant in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
